Overview
Rammstein has put out 8 studio albums so far into their career and each album has its own style to it. Picking the best song from each record was a difficult task to do since some of these records are super solid from front to back. I will also be taking into account the live performance for these songs unless it hasn’t been played live.
Herzeleid – Du Riechst so Gut
This is probably the most played song from this album and for good reason. This one is probably the most timeless one on this record. Most of the songs from this album sound a bit dated but this one and maybe Asche zu Asche are the most modern sounding from this record. During the live show Till will also wield a bow that shoots off sparks that is very cool to see.
Sehnsucht – Sehnsucht
Compared to their first album this one is a lot more timeless do to the fact of the better production. Most people would probably say Du Hast is the best song off this record because of the live performance and the fact that this launched their international career. I do think Du Hast’s live performance is definitely better than Sehnsucht but for this one I think that Sehnsucht hits harder the whole song.
Mutter – Sonne
This one may seem like the obvious choice from this album but it was far from that. Mein Herz Brennt was a close second for me as musically it is very diverse from the rest of the album. However Sonne I feel is the most solid song on this album because of the main riff and chorus. I can tell that Rammstein themselves knows that this is their best song because they go all out on the pyro for this song live.
Reise Reise – Mein Teil
I feel like this song is easily the best song off Reise Reise because of the writing and lyrical content of this song. Granted the rest of the album is very good this one you can tell is different. The main riff to this song live is a different animal. Whenever I saw Rammstein live they led into this song right after Radio so the setup was perfect. The way they perform this live is also a key factor because of Flake being in the pot.
Rosenrot – Hilf Mir
I’m going to preface this opinion on the fact that I’m not a huge fan of this album at large but musically I believe this is the best song off this record. The ending of this song is very dramatic as Till yells “Hilf Mir!”. Also the riff is very dark and heavy.
Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da – Ich tu dir weh
This album is probably goes under the radar of most because there isn’t really many popular songs off this album. This one is the only song that can hold its own when comparing their newer songs to their older songs. The main riff is very heavy and the chorus is very angelic.
Untitled – Zeig Dich
Most people would probably pick Deutschland to be the best song off this record but I believe that Zeig Dich is better. I do think Deutschland is a very solid option though. The grandiose choir vocals during the beginning and during the bridge add a lot to the overall feel of this song. I got the pleasure of seeing them perform this song live and it was one of my favorites.
Zeit – Angst
This one is a no brainer as well to me because after my first listen to this album this was the one of the only songs that immediately stood out to me. I was surprised to hear them using a Drop B tuning because they have only ever gone as low as Drop C before this album. The lyrical content mixed with Till’s heavy vocals really bring this song to life especially during the breakdown.
Conclusion
Over their 25+ year career they have had quite the discography. I wouldn’t say they have ever released a bad album so picking one song from each album is not super easy. I’m curious to see what your opinion is if you disagree with my picks. You can find my article on Rammstein albums ranked here!
