Rammstein Albums Ranked from Best to Worst

Overview

Rammstein the Neue Deutsche Harte band from Berlin first started their career back in 1995 with their first release of Herzeleid. This garnered them some attention but they didn’t really make it big until their sophomore release of Sehnsucht with the single Du hast.

1. Mutter (2001)

This pick should be a no brainer as it features arguable most of their best songs. It features songs to the like of Sonne, Mein Herz Brennt, Mutter, Links 2 3 4, Feuer Frei, etc. I believe this is their most approachable album to new listeners because they start to get more melodic than their previous two albums. Songs like Mein Herz Brennt have metal elements but are also heavily using orchestral sounds to give a certain feel to it.

2. Sehnsucht (1997)

Apart from the obvious reason (Du hast) on why this album is their second best I believe that this album really set their path onward from it. This was a huge step up from Herzeleid in both song writing and production. The reason why this one is rated number two is because of what this album did for them and their introduction into other major markets outside of Germany. If it wasn’t for Du Hast then they wouldn’t have breached the U.S. market as quickly and with the popularity that it did. Songs like Sehnsucht, Buck Dich, and Bestrafe mich are just a few that show the albums energy.

3. Untitled (2019)

After a 10 year hiatus Rammstein released this record with a bang with Deutschland as its first single. This is probably one of their best singles because of the lyrical content and the music video that accompanied it. This album has a lot of strong songs that include Radio, Zeig Dich, Puppe, etc.

4. Reise Reise (2004)

Musically this album took a big turn from their previous release in Sehnsucht. In this album the songs are a bit darker sounding and slower. This album probably has some of their heaviest riffs in Mein Teil and Keine Lust. They also incorporate more orchestral elements in this album in Reise Reise and Ohne Dich. Overall I feel like this album is very well done back to back. The only lack luster songs on this record would be Los and Moskau.

5. Zeit (2022)

As of the moment this is their most recent release and it turned out to be a very solid album. This one is more of the emotional side of things so it shares a lot with Rosenrot. This album is a step ahead of Rosenrot in both musicality and song writing. The best songs off this record include Angst, Armee Der Tristen, Giftig, and Schwarz.

6. Rosenrot (2005)

I know this album is a lot of people’s favorites but I don’t think it stacks up well against the albums listed before. This one does have a few great songs like Mann Gegen Mann, Benzin, Spring, and Zerstoren. However, the other songs on this record just doesn’t fit right on a Rammstein album for me.

7. Liebe ist Fur Alle Da (2009)

The reason why this album is so low on the list is because this one was more of an experimental album. While this album packs a punch production wise, the songs don’t live up to the rest of their discography. The best song Ich Tu Dir Weh could hold its own on any of the records above, but the rest don’t hold up against the best of their discography.

8. Herzeleid (1995)

I wouldn’t say that this album is bad but compared to their other offerings this one is definitely the most outdated sounding. However they do still play some songs off this record live because they are classic like Du Riechst so Gut, Asche zu Asche, and Rammstein.
